Cement Silos


Cement silos are used in concrete plants to store cement and supply it to a concrete mixer. The generally accepted standard shape of a silo is a cylinder.

The silo can be vertical or horizontal; its top is equipped with a lid with elements that ensure cement loading. The bottom of the conical shape has a special hole for supplying cement, the opening and closing of this window is controlled by a shutter.

Silos are mobile or firmly established by the foundation.

When you have finally established with the thought: "buy a silo," that before purchasing the silage should be defined with its volume.


Silo capacity is recommended to choose within a five-day performance of the concrete plant


In the event of a failure in the supply of cement, there will be a necessary reserve that ensures a continuous technological process of concrete production, and practice has shown that within this time the cement will cool down and mature to the required condition. But we should not forget that a cement silo is not a warehouse for long-term storage of cement, it is not intended for this. The price of a silo depends significantly on the design of its body. For cement silos, welded metal structures are preferable. At the Zlatoust Concrete Mixing Equipment Plant (ZZBO), where the production of silos has already been established, two types of silos are manufactured: all-welded and prefabricated. Their design provides high resistance to external mechanical damage (silo wall thickness 4 mm, double painting) and guarantees tightness to avoid capillary hydration of cement inside the silo.

In the silo operation, difficult cement supply at the outlet is possible. To avoid such situations, the silos are equipped with aeration or bridging system. This will ensure intensive flow of cement through the gate into the auger and further into the weighing hopper. Additionally, a cement filter and an overpressure sensor are supplied, which somewhat increases the cost of the silo, but optimizes its operation. When ordering options for the silo from ZZBO (manual shutter, bridging system, aeration system, sensors of the upper and lower levels of cement, cement filter), all components will be manufactured by SCUTTI (Italy).
